Santiago, April 30, 2015. –
Grupo Castrosua has received one of the Public Transport and Sustainable Mobility Awards promoted by the Madrid Regional Transport Consortium (CRTM), specifically within the Companies or Institutions category. The award ceremony, which was accepted by Juan Luis Castro, president of Grupo Castrosua, took place yesterday during a public event attended by, among other personalities, the Minister of Transport, Infrastructure, and Housing of the Community of Madrid, Pablo Cavero.

The award granted to Grupo Castrosua has recognized, in particular, the development – by the Santiago de Compostela-based company – of Europe’s first Class II, high-floor, Euro VI CNG-powered bodied buses. This pioneering development has successfully passed exhaustive quality controls, as well as the technical requirements demanded by various bodies from passenger transport operating companies.

Indeed, a total of 40 units of these characteristics were delivered by Castrosua to various companies integrated into the Madrid Regional Transport Consortium in the last quarter of last year, allowing regular passengers on different routes in this community to enjoy greater comfort in their journeys with more comfortable, accessible, and environmentally friendly vehicles. In this regard, Grupo Castrosua is the sole supplier of CNG-powered vehicles for the CRTM.

Sustainability and Savings

These units, which are already operating in various cities across our country, reduce emission levels and allow for fuel savings of up to 57%.

The awarded bodies feature composite aluminum sides to reduce weight; LED interior and exterior lighting ensuring greater durability and low consumption; as well as various equipment such as platforms, double or single glazing, the possibility of USB connectors and power outlets, different models of reclining or non-reclining seats, or the option of luggage compartments and overhead racks, among other features.

Innovations Incorporated in the Vehicles

The vehicles have different approved layouts on various chassis and all include approval for school transport. Depending on the vehicle’s length and the number of CNG cylinders, ranges of up to 400 kilometers can be achieved.

In addition, these bodies have been the first vehicles approved in Spain under Regulation 107.06, which will come into effect for new registrations from 2018 onwards, and which includes, as a novelty, the provision of safety symbols inside in accordance with ISO 3864-1:2011, among other matters.
