The new Nelec model from Grupo Castrosua, a solution for electromobility, has been one of the products awarded by the jury of the prestigious international Red Dot Award in the product design category. The Red Dot Awards are considered the ‘Oscars’ of design and aim to recognize the quality and innovation of designers and manufacturers in the creation of new products. In order to professionally evaluate the diversity in the field of design, the award is divided into three disciplines: Red Dot product design, Red Dot brands & communication design, and Red Dot concept design.
The Red Dot Award, created in 1955, is now one of the largest and most recognized design competitions in the world. With this distinction, which is organized annually, Grupo Castrosua joins, for the second time, the select group of companies and individuals who have received the Red Dot Award, which includes renowned brands such as Apple or Lamborghini.
Almost 8,000 entries submitted
The new Nelec from Grupo Castrosua was one of the 7,800 innovative entries, from 60 different countries, competing for the prestigious Red Dot Award this year. A jury of 50 people, including specialized journalists, renowned designers, and academics in this field, chose the Grupo Castrosua vehicle as one of the winning entries for the 2021 Red Dot Award for Best Product Design in the commercial vehicles category.
The jury awards prizes based solely on criteria related to the innovation, aesthetics, utility, functionality, or impact of the submitted design. This year’s award ceremony will likely take place virtually in June.
Design
From a design perspective, this project was approached with two basic objectives. The first is to meet the need for a modern, reliable, and innovative product that meets operators’ expectations and, above all, adapts to all their needs through a fully customizable bus. The second is the implementation of an even more flexible and multidisciplinary design team, supported by new techniques and integrating 3D design in all its phases, which has provided an even more differentiating degree and has made it a future-oriented solution to mobility challenges.
The exterior design of the Nelec prioritizes clean and simple lines, modularity, easy access to mechanical components for maintenance, and improved performance, without forgetting quick identification and customization by our clients. In this way, Nelec has positioned aesthetic and functional design where it belongs, all without compromising the industrial character of the product.
This award is a recognition of the hard work and passion that Grupo Castrosua puts into each of its projects.
