Nelec, Castrosua’s new electric platform offering, has been awarded Ecological Bus of the Year 2022 in Spain at the National Transport Awards, organized by Viajeros magazine and presented by Spanish road transport operators.
About Nelec
Nelec, Castrosua’s bodywork for electric chassis, will meet the customization needs of each client’s and city’s mobility models. The high degree of customization in this model allows for exclusive and unique designs, both visually and conceptually, as well as in terms of equipment. All with the aim of making the travel experience in Nelec attractive before, during, and after boarding the bus for the end-user.
In this regard, Nelec offers a wide range of possibilities, from the number of doors (two or three) to the length of the vehicle (from 11.5 meters to 13 meters), as well as a complete range of equipment upon customer request, precisely and efficiently.
Furthermore, Nelec has been designed with the aim of contributing to society, not only from an environmental perspective but also to help combat the pandemic we are experiencing. For this reason, various mechanisms have been incorporated, such as specific ducting for the air conditioning system, which can aid in purifying and renewing the air inside the cabin, thus being prepared for the preventive demands of today’s world. This advancement is complemented by other features, such as alternatives to physical contact for stop request buttons, by equipping foot-operated buttons or photoelectric sensor mechanisms that activate upon detecting a hand in their vicinity. These have been entirely designed by Castrosua, offering the market an innovative solution to date.
The Nelec also stands out for its environmental responsibility, having been designed and built with lighter and mostly recyclable alternative materials that reduce the vehicle’s weight, thus lowering consumption and ensuring range, making Nelec a sustainable means of transport. On an electric platform, the bodywork also incorporates other measures such as increased energy efficiency thanks to the use of 100% LED lighting throughout the vehicle, with indirect interior lighting aimed at creating a spacious and comfortable passenger cabin.
About the Awards
The publishing group Editec, to which Viajeros magazine belongs, has been organizing the awards for the best industrial vehicles of the year in Spain since 1988. For over three decades, they have recognized innovation and development efforts in the manufacturing and bodywork industry, for both passenger and goods road transport segments, with 11 categories. The winners are chosen directly, through a vote overseen by a notary, by a broad representation of executives from road transport companies in our country.
This year, due to the pandemic, the traditional awards gala will not be held, and the announcement of the winners in each category will once again be virtual.
About the Ecological Bus 2022 Jury
This year, there were 10 nominees in the Ecological Bus of the Year 2022 category, with votes cast by 62 jurors, all of whom were representatives of major transport associations as well as prominent public and private passenger transport companies in urban and metropolitan areas. This jury has decided that, out of the 10 nominees for the best Ecological Bus of the Year 2022 in Spain award, the Castrosua model, NELEC, is the winner.
Each year, the selection of winners follows a meticulous transparency procedure where the jurors’ votes are sent directly to a notary who attests to their authenticity. Therefore, it is an award granted by the transport sector itself.
