Santiago, February 10, 2015 – Grupo Castrosua – made up of the firms Castrosua, Carsa, Insular, and Cidsa – billed a total of 52.7 million euros in 2014 with the manufacture of almost 300 units. This was revealed this morning by Juan Luis Castro, president of the company, during a meeting held with the director of the Energy Institute of Galicia (INEGA), Ángel B. Tahoces.
“There is a climate of moderate optimism in our sector, and we can say that 2014 was the first year in which a change in trend was evident, after the long period of crisis,” stated Juan Luis Castro.
Commitment to energy saving and efficiency
The president of Grupo Castrosua made these statements to the media within the framework of the visit by the director of INEGA to the company’s production plant. Tahoces visited Grupo Castrosua to learn firsthand about the project for the integral replacement of lighting with an LED lighting system carried out by the company. Last year, Grupo Castrosua benefited from one of the Institute’s aid lines. Specifically, from the one promoted to subsidize energy saving and efficiency projects in companies (belonging to the industrial and service sectors).
With the granted aid, which amounted to more than 95,000 euros (for the Castrosua and Carsa plants), a total of 2,113 luminaires, with an installed power of 205 kW, were replaced in the Castrosua plant in Santiago by 1,858 LED luminaires, with an associated power of 54 kW. On the other hand, in the Carsa plant (in Vilagarcía de Arousa), the action involved the installation of 937 LED luminaires, with an associated power of 31 kW.
“This has meant an annual saving of 386,455 kWh for us in Castrosua and 293,494 kWh/year in Carsa. That is, between 70 and 80% annual energy saving, with the consequent reduction in CO2 emissions,” said Juan Luis Castro. “Through this renovation of energy supply equipment, our company continues to promote the development of a management model based on sustainability, through energy saving and efficiency,” he added.

Improving competitiveness
Precisely, the commitment to sustainable development is one of the premises contained in Grupo Castrosua’s Strategic Plan. This commitment to environmental sustainability is also reflected, for example, in the manufacture of hybrid and gas buses and has contributed to improving the company’s competitiveness as well as consolidating its market position, as highlighted by Juan Luis Castro. The company president also recalled that it is one of the few companies in the bodywork sector with ISO 14001 certification (which attests to good environmental management practices).
For his part, the director of INEGA pointed out, during his visit to Castrosua, that the deadline for submitting applications to benefit from the new line of subsidies for energy saving and efficiency projects in the industrial sector remains open. As he highlighted, INEGA seeks to “promote competitiveness in industry and services.”
