May 18, 2017

The Cabildo presented on Wednesday, May 17, the 37 new Titsa buses that will begin operating on different lines in the metropolitan area, north, and south of the island. They are more accessible, safer, and more environmentally friendly.

The presentation of the new fleet was attended by the president of the Cabildo de Tenerife, Carlos Alonso; the insular director of Fomento, Miguel Becerra; the manager of Titsa, Jacobo Kalitovics; the general director of Transport of the Government of the Canary Islands, Yasmina García, and municipal representatives, including the mayor of La Orotava, Francisco Linares. Also, executives from Scania and Castrosua, such as its General Director Pedro J. Juan Boix.

The manager of Titsa, Jacobo Kalitovics, recalled that in the almost 40 years of Titsa’s existence (it will turn 40 next January), the buses have transported 1.2 billion passengers and have traveled 1.1 billion kilometers. Since the new fleet was launched in 2015, 255,000 liters of fuel have been saved.

The units, acquired through a tender from Castrosua and Scania, will enhance the efficiency and reliability of the transport service provided by TITSA and contribute more significantly to preserving the environment, by complying with the Euro 6 low-emission standards.

This new fleet includes 6 interurban units, Stellae bodywork, 15 meters long, for long-distance travel with a capacity for 67 passengers and one space for a wheelchair. There are also 20 standard interurban vehicles, with Magnus.E bodywork, between 12 and 13 meters long, with 47 seats and 2 for wheelchairs; 4 suburban vehicles with Magnus.E LE bodywork, 13 meters long, for 39 seats and 2 for wheelchairs; and 7 Magnus.E LE units, 11 meters long, with a capacity for 35 seats and two for wheelchairs.

The new Titsa fleet features the latest advancements in accessibility, safety, and environmental protection, such as a body-lifting and lowering system that facilitates entry for people with reduced mobility, specific access for wheelchair users through lifting platforms and reserved space for them, STOP buttons with Braille lettering, or optical indicators for people with visual impairments, among others. Additionally, they incorporate improvements to meet user needs, such as USB ports for charging mobile devices or TFT screens.

With this delivery of 37 buses, the total number of units delivered to Titsa since 2015 now reaches 138. From here, Grupo Castrosua thanks Titsa for the trust placed in them.

Tengo el honor de haber sido su primer jefe en los comienzos de su vida profesional en Alcatel. Por poco tiempo, enseguida me lo robaron para otras funciones.
Una gran persona, un gran profesional, un gran amigo.
