On July 1, 2022, the Mancomunidad de la Comarca de Pamplona (Pamplona Region Council) presented the first 13 new compressed natural gas (CNG) powered buses with Renewable Origin Guarantee (GdO) that will form part of the fleet of the Comarcal Urban Transport managed by TCC Pamplona, belonging to the Moventis Group.
The 13 new vehicles are Castrosua Group’s New City model bodywork on Scania chassis and comply with regulations 66 and 107. Seven of them are 18-meter articulated buses and the other six are 12-meter rigid buses, all with two spaces for wheelchairs. As with all Castrosua vehicles, accessibility and safety for the driver and passengers have been prioritized. Regarding safety, they are equipped with a fire suppression system and incorporate an active safety system that uses five cameras in each vehicle to alert the driver of imminent collision risk. Furthermore, the interior of the vehicles features antibacterial materials and all are equipped with air purification systems.
Regarding accessibility, the buses have double ramps for wheelchairs (electric and manual) and metro-style doors. The driver’s seat is highly ergonomic, with a heated seat and electric components for greater comfort. Additionally, all vehicle lights are LED.
The presentation event was attended by, among others, the Director General of Transport and Sustainable Mobility of the Government of Navarra, Berta Miranda, the President of the MCP, David Campión, and the Director General of the Moventis Group, Juan Giménez, as well as the CEO of Grupo Castrosua, Beatriz Castro, and commercial technician Ramón Senlle, and from Scania, the commercial director Alberto Linares and the commercial manager for urban buses, Pedro Cotera.
These buses are the first CNG-powered vehicles to be incorporated into the Comarcal Urban Transport fleet for the progressive replacement of polluting buses. This serves a dual purpose: to be clean vehicles and carbon neutral. Furthermore, in the coming years, the Mancomunidad will generate its own biomethane. This project is part of local-scale circular economy policies, whereby this biomethane, derived from waste, will serve as fuel for heavy vehicle fleets.
Another novelty presented on Friday was the installation of a natural gas supply located in the outer yard of the depots, which will allow the new CNG-powered buses to refuel.
The Mancomunidad de la Comarca de Pamplona thus begins the definitive abandonment of fossil fuels with these 13 units powered by compressed natural gas. We want to thank Grupo Moventis for the trust placed in us with the acquisition of these new vehicles.
