- The honorary president of Grupo Castrosua was born in the Ourense town of O Carballiño on July 16, 1926
Santiago, July 15, 2016.- Don José Castro, founder of Castrosua and current honorary president of the company, received a heartfelt tribute today from the group’s workers on the occasion of his 90th birthday. The staff members of the Santiago factory gathered at the production plant to congratulate Don José. D. José was accompanied at the event by his wife Pepita, his son Juan Luis, current president of Grupo Castrosua, and his grandchildren Beatriz and Carlos Castro.
This tribute is in addition to the one received last Tuesday, July 12, by the honorary president of Grupo Castrosua from prominent members of the bodywork and transport sector during a lunch organized by the Association of Transport Veterans (ASVETRANS) in Madrid, which also included the participation of the organizations ASCABUS, ASINTRA, ATUC, AETRAM, and FENEBUS.
A tireless worker
From a very young age, Don José Castro focused his activity on the bodywork sector. His most notable work was the exterior finishing of wooden structures. For this reason, he was highly valued by the sheet metal workers and was nicknamed Pepe “the Bodyworker”.
In 1947, he completed his military service in Zaragoza and took the opportunity to enroll in a local school of arts and crafts, where he had the chance to systematize the knowledge acquired at work. Upon returning from military service in 1949, he established himself as a bodyworker, first in O Carballiño and later in Vilagarcía de Arousa, in what can be considered the beginnings of Grupo Castrosua.
Throughout this time, there were many difficulties along the way. But D. José managed to overcome each one and consolidate a business group to which members of the third generation of the family have already joined. His effort, dedication, and commitment to the business project have always been Don José’s inspiring values and constitute, today, the best legacy for his children and grandchildren.
Currently, far from being inactive, Don José visits his office with some regularity and is often seen walking through the production plants of Grupo Castrosua.
