Innovation
Our commitment to research and continuous innovation, integral parts of our identity, allows us to offer the market a high added-value proposition and set ourselves apart through our cutting-edge approach.
We have strong partnerships with leading companies, prestigious universities and the most advanced research centres. We actively collaborate with other companies to develop innovative public transport systems. Thanks to these partnerships, we have developed sustainable materials. This commitment to innovation is reflected in our history, as illustrated by the alternative fuel vehicles we have built.
Sustainable growth
Our company is in a stage of sustainable growth: preserving our know-how, without sacrificing the way we want to be. Pushing ahead with a clear strategic challenge, which we are already pursuing. Fostering the development of our high-performing team is the cornerstone of our success.
Internationalisation
Diversifying our presence in global markets is one of the keys to our future. We are continuing to grow by developing numerous projects and partnerships in a variety of countries.
The strength we gain from our ongoing commitment to both tradition and innovation will ensure our success.
Sustainable wellbeing
Investing in our development is an investment in our wellbeing, and vice versa. When we commit to sustainable growth, both on an individual level and across the organisation, we create a healthier and more collaborative environment. Having management models that promote wellbeing and an emotionally intelligent organisation helps us to face challenges more resiliently. Agile, shared leadership promotes innovation and engagement, while developing a trust- and motivation-based culture drives us to reach our full potential. Because feeling well is not merely a goal, it is the driving force that helps us to grow.

The Group
The Castrosua Group is composed of five main companies. This structure allows us to cover different areas within the sector, from design and manufacturing to marketing, servicing and technological development.
History
From our humble workshop in the 1940s, where our first wheeled designs were built using wood, to today's state-of-the-art facilities, Castrosua has a history of continuously evolving. Like a phoenix rising from the ashes of a disaster in its early days, the company has shaped the industry, adapting to the times and anticipating the future, building a legacy of innovation, quality and commitment that continues to this day.

Our beginnings in Carballiño
After completing his military service, José Castro sets up an independent coach body-building business in O Carballiño, becoming known as "Pepe, the coach body-builder". He receives his first orders in 1948, marking the official start of the Group. A fire destroys his workshop, forcing him to cease his activities temporarily.

Relocation to Vilagarcía
A businessman from O Salnés offers him work in a local coach body-builder. After his initial success, Castro relocates his workshop to Vilagarcía de Arousa, where the company's orders, staff and facilities all grow.

Expansion to Santiago
Castrosua expands and opens a 5,000 m² plant in Santiago. It becomes Pegaso's preferred coach body-builder, enjoying a surge in demand.

Creation of Unión Carrocera
The company merges with Caride (Ourense), Barro-Chavín (Viveiro) and a Catalonian coach body-builder (Manresa), thus creating Unión Carrocera with five production plants.

Founding of Insular
José Castro leaves Unión Carrocera and buys the plant in Santiago to create the present-day Castrosua, focusing on producing urban and intercity buses. This further expands with the creation of Insular Canarias in 1985.

Creation of Carsa and Cidsa
Focusing on urban transport, it develops a successful low-floor platform and introduces LPG, CLG and CNG technologies. Cidsa is created (1997, assembling Scania chassis) along with Carsa (1998, for an agreement with Scania Hispania).

New management
The focus switches to hydrogen and biofuels. Following the death of José Manuel Castro, Juan Luis Castro is appointed President and third-generation family members join the company. The Tempus (first Spanish hybrid bus) is launched in 2008. In 2018 Beatriz Castro takes over as the company's CEO.

Innovating in sustainability
The Group (Castrosua, Carsa, Insular, Cidsa and Mobme) has over 500 employees and facilities covering 90,000 m². It develops five product ranges (Nelec, 75 CS, New City, Magnus.H and Magnus.E) and prioritises sustainability by developing hybrid and electric vehicles and strategic partnerships.
